    What’s really amazing is when you learn just how close the Romans were to inventing the steam engine. They nearly kicked off the industrial revolution a dozen centuries early.

    Having witnessed the evolution of the smartphone and all its hiccups and outright failures (slow, off-color screens, frequent crashes, dropping connections), it’s a wonder that you can buy one for less than $100 that works as well as it does.
