Voice: I said, I'll play catch later! The solar system doesn't revolve around you, son! Contempt for his father's words became the impetus' for Copernicus' greatest find.
Guess he showed him!
It was his personal revolution…. took him years to planet.
Why don’t we rename this system the “Copernicus System” in his honour. We could live on Copernicus 3, or maybe call ourselves Copernicans._____________________Unless someone else came up with the solar-centric idea before him.
Much better than Sol, Earth.
Heliocentric little ingrate. Who are you to go against the teachings of the church.
What’s that on his face? Son spots?
I thought he would look brighter that that.
Or as the Beatles sang.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6tV11acSRk
Wouldn’t they have called it the “Earth System” back then?
Wow, apparently someone in his century invented baseball too!
He also played Pop Warner and was the Center of attention.
He really got into the major league’s with his “find”.
Picto: Actually, he was a Vatican official.
I find this cartoon to be rather heliocentric.
My wife’s mommy is so big, that planets orbit around HER !!!(shhhhhh here she comes, don’t say anything )..LOL
It’s Sol Invictus, the Invincible Sun. And while Sol Invictus is the real reason for that season, I’ve never come across any reference to that deity being crucified. Could you post a source for that? I’m curious.
The convention of naming planets “Star n” predates even Forbidden Planet. It was used in science fiction writing as far back as the 1930s. Even in Star Trek, the nomenclature was not applied consistently. Vulcan was never called “40 Eridani A 2” (or “Alnitak 2” or “Gamma Vega 2”), and Qo’noS, Romulus, Bajor and Remus were never called by a stellar index designation.
Gene Roddenberry once told me in person that Star Trek had “…absolutely nothing to do with science fiction.”
They’re sure easy at midnight Dog. Good one.
He seems couched in his indifference. If he only stuck with the baseball…. “Now pitching for the Cinncinnati Galaxy’s, Nicolas Copernicus!”
So, his father knew before him.
I realised today it’s related to an old favorite of mine… click the link for the August 26th ’09 Brevity
“The planets don’t revolve around you, Son.” Solar system implies the Copernican view.
