I have a BiL like that. He’s retired, but no-one can figure out what he’s retired from. His father once confided in me that they expected him to be an astronaut, because in school he mostly took up space.
I started a paper route around 8 or 9. At 10 I helped my dad with his second job scrubbing floors in an office building. At 14 my folks lied about my age so that I could work summers and Saturdays in a factory. They grew up during the depression.
I was 12 when I started working at the YMCA picking up towels and mopping floors. I was paid $2/hour under the table in cash because I was too young to have my working papers.
1 Timothy 6:8 So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content. Gladys’ missing out on the best part of life. A faithful providing Husband and loving child.
If you go by Charles Dicken’s famous novel of a boy put to work, Oliver Twist, I believe he was put to work in the workhouse on his 9th birthday. So does Wilberforce not look like 9 yet?
I’ve been fortunate in my life to have loved working at the four main jobs of my life, US Army, Police Officer, Deputy District Attorney/Special Assistant US Attorney and now College Professor. While each job most definitely had some very bad days, I enjoyed and still enjoy going to work every day that I did and do. I really can’t say that my work was hard or bad as I enjoyed it so much. So, I’m with him, I’ve yet to go to work as an adult except in my yard which I really do hate…..

Looks like Gladys has been talking with Veebs. But I’m impressed Wilberforce asked to work instead of for Mom and Dad to just give him money!

Not cool Gladys, being snarky about the family provider, and to your son.
