I arrived for the Fancy Dress Ball / in the most clever costume of all. / Not a one could compare / with what I chose to wear. / (You’d agree if I weren’t so small.) /// When we posed, on that magical night, / for the painter, I sought the best light. / I am bathed in it’s glow / in the 33rd row. / I’m the 98th one from the right.

When it came to "reading a room/ Perigal was a humaan “Zoom”/ not a soul was aggrieved/ at the likeness achieved/ and some even still visit his tomb. /// He complied with a royal directive/ and he toiled at the proper perspective/ He depicted the horde/-both shareholders and board/ though not without Scottish invective.

    A Fancy Dress Ball, Manchester

    https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fancy_Dress_Ball_Perigal.jpg

has info and links that point to more info about this huge painting, along with a short Description (References has more).

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (⌘- or Ctrl-) clicking the image at

    https://thatispriceless.blogspot.com/2021/07/masterpiece-2748.html

I have added a comment there (awaiting Mr. Melcher’s OK) pointing to the artist info I used to point to here. This is a different caption repeat of the only work by this artist used here.

    https://www.gocomics.com/that-is-priceless/2017/05/16?comments=visible

has the first time it was used (my comment there points to the same artist info that the blog entry will/does).

Pandemic protocols for social distancing had devastated Arthur Perigal the Elder’s plan to paint “ A Fancy Dress Ball.” Then someone suggested the perfect solution — 400 life-size cardboard cutouts.
