Ted Rall for December 31, 2001
Transcript:
During a recent trip, the topic of my home address inevitably elicited the same sympathetic response: New York? Oh... I am so sorry. In Istanbul, Turkey. Even in the poorest, most war-torn dumps, people feel pity. I heard what happened... How awful! In Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Okay, so Sept. 11 was a shock. And the recession is a downer. But we're still a superpower, and New York is one of the world's greatest cities - perhaps the very best. We're Americans, not charity cases! New York - too bad. In Taloqan, Afghanistan. On the other hand, being the focus of a pity party does have its advantages. Those are our bombs falling on your head! Whatever makes you feel good.
