    Yep.

    Hal 9000 was a Mac!

( I know Alexa isn’t made by Apple, but they started the who ‘machines programmed to do more than you tell them’ thing.)

Remember the days when we only worried about the government eavesdropping? Now people pay money to Facebook, Google, Amazon, and Apple to do this stuff – and hardly give it a second thought.

So glad I’m not on any of those things! I don’t have a cell phone, never mind a Smart one, no Facebook, no Alexa or Siri. I DO have a GPS, though; does that count?

Hunh….I saw “2001…” when I was a teen. Maybe that’s why I’m so leery of modern tech. “Dave….we can talk about this, Dave…” NO. No, we can’t.

That’s one of the reason we don’t have one.

In our house, Alexa is an almost eight year old girl. There are times we don’t like her listening to our conversations either.

And try to see how successful we would be unplugging her!

    ;-P

I don’t feel comfortable talking to anything that isn’t alive, and it creeps me out to think that it can suddenly talk to me.

Let’s see how Alexa tries to kill the family members. Shutting down central heating when it’s freezing cold outside? Locking all doors and keeping closed the burglar-proof blinds while disconnecting all landlines and blocking the mobile communications? Manipulate the controls of an airplane to crash it into the family car when all family members are sitting in for shopping? Calling the police and informing them that the house is full of armed terrorists trying to assault all local schools?

“Captain, the computer has protected itself from any attempt on our part to regain control.”It has been decided here that no such device shall enter this house. I hope no one changes their minds. I’d hate to carry a shovel through the house and accidentally drop it.

Alexa and HAL had nothing on Colossus-Guardian who ruled the world in some parallel Earths.
