Sometimes a “straw man” is a useful device. In the very beginning of an engineering project one puts up a “straw man” idea to see if there are any obvious flaws. This evolves into a “wooden man” (more solid than the straw variety), then into an “iron man” (more solid still). Only then does an actual design emerge. I don’t think that is what ChurchhillWasRight was doing.
