When I was a teenager in Minneapolis I remember there were CO-OPs that were loosely monetarily based and there were also mini-CCCP’s with their “social” agenda with enforcers. It got ugly and violent when the free market versions were forcibly overtaken. The customers voted with their pocketbooks and the free market prevailed. Nobody likes to be told what to eat, to stand in line for inferior products or pay more than what is fair.
