Reminds me of that “Calvin and Hobbes” Sunday strip where Calvin slowly goes wading into a cold lake until Hobbes cannon balls into it. (Where are Max’s water wings and life jacket?)
That’s me getting into our pool at the first of the season, now it’s how fast can I get in because of the weather it’s like a hot tub
“Don’s swim in the ocean, fish **** in it”
I’m looking forward to the “Ya Gotta Love August” strips.
Max has no fear of the water and probably is a swimmer already. That’s the safest way to keep kids from drowning. (As is with all dangerous situations they will encounter: teach them about traffic, the internet, fire, electricity, bullying, weather, wildlife… it will give them competence and the ability to master dangers on their own. And teach them to ask for advice and help if the situation is new to them by giving that advice or the example that you ask for help yourself, e.g. if it calls for a lawyer or a craftsperson)
Mama Joan not happy, yet Max is having a blast with step daddy Wally.
You’ll thank him later.
Ooooh! My bugaboo. I hate cold water.
I had a cousin (who lived with us) who often played Joan in this vignette. All the sibs liked playing Wally.
Lake Michigan, in the middle of summer, is a lot like that.
I don’t love the heat and August is just one of several agonizing months.
I’ve done this so many times, been slow to get in and the one doing the splashing (cause once you are in, it really is nice). Surprised she has her glasses on. Would we recognizer without them?
