Holly: Mom? Why are you under the desk?
Gramma Evie: Your mom's having a little panic attack, Holly. Go make her some tea.
Val: I am NOT having a panic attack. I'm...
Val: Having a moment.
Holly: Mom's freaking out.
If being a cold fish is due to losing a husband, not wanting baby puke on oneself, I know a few ice queens. People put up walls to protect themselves, a broken heart takes years to heal. And Phil wouldn’t be around if he weren’t willing to deal with Val’s insecurities with relationships. My dad has been in the hospital for the last week and my mom goes home/work because Dad tells her to let him sleep. Is she a cold fish for not wanting (nor being wanted) to have her sit up there and watch him sleep, NO. As far as the don’t touch me, If I were in my good clothes and my sister had baby puke on her, she’d stop me from hugging her too.
Right now i envy Val. She has a loving support group to help her through her “moment” Nothing is as valuable as someone who is there when you need help.
I’ve had days where I would have loved to hide from the world. Val can be a bowl of jello as needed – in private. Once the shock wears off, though, I am sure that she will smile and support Phil, and her family will, too. She and the girls love Phil; they will be there for him.
I’m with others commenting on the general theme of Val and family continuing to love and support Phil, even as Val gets the love, support, and (probable) kick in the pants she needs!!
Also, I think Evie needs to come home for the summer! For some of that “pants kicking support”! NOW!!! Who’s with me??;-)

Gramma’s not the same on Skype. I don’t know why she was written out of the strip (effectively).
