Val: Here's your costume, Holly.
Alix: It's just a sheet.
Val: Cut a hole...tuck and drape...add a big, wide belt...put up your HAIR...
Holly: Princess LEIA?!
Val: May the force be with you.
Alix: May the CANDY be with us!! Let's GO!
Dads rule too – my ex is wildly creative and always made our kids’ costumes. Still have a few 25 years later. Amazing what you can do with cardboard. He did his own as well…one year came as a tube of toothpaste.
My daughter and her best college friend stayed up late one night making a Holstein-cow costume. My daughter was the back end. I have a picture of them in this costume standing in our back yard. Sadly, the friend was broadsided by a guy fleeing the police and died not long before her wedding was scheduled. That photo is precious.

Now all they have to do is cover up with a bright colored rain poncho.

Yes; homemade costumes are SO much better! (Always did my own, even as a kid… went as Shakespeare one year…)

I read somewhere a person dressed normally, wore a sign “Life” and carried a bag of lemons. (probably in one of the comments)
