Stone Soup by Jan Eliot Joan: Well, we've begun yet another new year, full of potential! Joan: This is a good time to take stock of our assets, and consider the possibilities! Val: Ok...we have three adults and three children all sharing one old house and one old car. Val: I'm the only one with a job, but you're optimistically looking. IF you find work... Val: ...day care will eat up HALF your salary!! As single moms, we occupy the lowest socio-economic group in the United States!! Val: Thank goodness the best things in life are free, right? Joan: Including the rain you just dropped on my parade? Val: You know what they say, baby sis. "If you can't stand the heat, stay out of my soup kitchen."
