Does Steve Kelley really not understand what was offensive about Biden, a white man, using the example of a self-described, proud racist / segregationist / white supremacist calling him “son” instead of “boy” when the whole point is that Cory Booker, a black man, would never have been called “son” by either James Eastland or Herman Talmadge?
Biden’s point about seeking civility (far more difficult in the age of McConnell) and working with those whose views one finds repugnant was legitimate. But he could have made that point far more effectively without that unfortunate choice of wording about “son” and “boy” and if Biden does not understand why that was offensive, then he is definitely out of touch.
And seriously, comparing it to Trump’s reference to “very fine people on both sides”? Hello! Trump was defending people carrying Nazi swastika flags and Confederate battle flags — literally the two flags that represent armed military conflict against the United States that were crushed by real Americans in the Civil War and World War II respectively, including a brutish white supremacist thug that had just murdered and assaulted peaceful protesters.
