Dick Dale, King of the Surf Guitar… Mr. Dale influenced many heavy metal guitarists, including Brian May of Queen & Jimi Hendrix of Woodstock fame, … he was the man who played one of the first Fender stratocasters ….upside down…he kept blowing out amplifiers until Fender came up with a sound system that could handle the thunder he heard in his head while he was surfing. His influence on the early heavy metal guitarist is apparent when you listen to his albums. The Beach Boys credit him with influencing their early music….
His mother had a record shop in Balboa that my sister and I used to window shop for 45’s in hope of seeing him in the late 50’s-early 60’s. He was definitely an influence on my love of the heavy metal guitar and the heavy beat sound that has stayed with me to this day.
Dick Dale… King of Surf Guitar !!! You will always be in my memory and missed in the hearts of all of your fans. May you ride the waves in heaven and find the source of that wonderful thundering music you gave to all of us poor mortals.. R.I.P..
