Children died. Guns were used. NRA fights any restriction on purchasing deadly weapons. Steve Benson simply reminds us of the reality that cannot be denied.

Please don’t confuse Stevey with the truth!I remember, our Liberal Neighbor, blamed the Conservative Right for shooting Kennedy.Of course they never apologized, for such ignorant and biased judgment.

Note to all Hotheads ! The point of political cartooning is to provoke a reaction. Steve Benson does his job brilliantly. If there were no comments – on both sides of the argument- then he would have failed ! You don’t KNOW what his true thoughts are on any subject he picks, but he knows, through cartoons, how to raise an issue / Carry on Benson you’re doing a great job !

The biggest oxymoron in America is the “National RIFLE Association”. Their efforts for the last several decades, even more that on supposed “assault weapons”, has been the refusal to regulate HAND GUNS, which indeed ARE by far the weapon of choice in criminal activity, and suicides. While high capacity, “short barrel” military style rifles are used by the shooters who get the most attention, irrationally, it is still the hand gun that is the king of killers. Virginia Tech – handgun, Gabby Giffords- handgun. It is the readily concealed high capacity handgun, that needs regulation and restriction.

My state runs thorough background checks, mandates qualifications on the ethics, and functional knowledge of handgun use, for a concealed carry permit. These permits must be renewed every four years, with a “review” background check to see that nothing has changed in the applicants “activities”. Such a system is viable, and sound for persons to acquire ANY firearm, especially center-fire, and should be a national standard, valid in all states. One simple “positive” btw is that the national standard would make a CCP issued by one state, valid in all, because the “testing standard” would be uniform.

Automobiles are licensed and registered. Drivers are licensed. Tigger needs an update. BECAUSE autos are registered, even though criminals will change plates, they no longer get rid of all the VIN number stampings on all the parts now done on newer cars, and vehicles can be traced to origin, and “criminals” caught. Drivers licenses are also becoming more standardized, though few states any more actually determine if applicants actually know how to DRIVE a car, before getting a license. (The move to “automate” automobiles, like “park assist” etc, is making this an even MORE DANGEROUS fact on our roads. The in-dash electronic displays aren’t helping either.)

Twenty children and six adults slaughtered by a social misfit who should not have had access to guns and not one change to gun regulation by a Congress more concerned about re-election? But a significant segment of society advocating more guns in schools as the solution? That is disgusting!

Not fact at all. The most gun crimes happen in the places with the most guns. A state gun law, sadly, is meaningless. We need federal standards.
