They breed tough little girls in tough neighbourhoods. Pity that they have to grow up tough. Shame that society doesn’t sort itself out.

It’s the idea that giving up criminals is wrong that allows them to run wild. Snitches get stitches needs to be something that everyone should protest against.

@crippliousI agree. But its not just true for inner city kids. The blue wall of silence within police departments needs t go, When someone is aware of a person cheating the safety net system that person needs to turn the cheat in. When someone cheats on their taxes anyone aware of it should turn the tax cheat in. Anyone aware of a gun owner who is unstable and likely to misuse the gun should be turned in. If its true for one group its true for all. Your thoughts?

It is a problem that requires a long term solution. If you live in a poor, violent neighborhood, your focus is on staying alive. You don’t snitch because it makes you a target. Your environment it filled with gang bangers, druggies and generally violent people who are out of work and have nothing better to do. The good people try to keep a really low profile. Unfortunately the poor schools and lack of opportunity keeps it going. Since it would take a long term commitment and lots of money to change things, the status quo remains.

Also, you don’t snitch because, as far as a kid in the inner city can tell, the blue ones are just another gang, whose first allegiance is to the gang itself, rather than some outside entity like “the public.” They get cars and guns, and when they kill your friends it’s either ignored, or they get full pay while taking a short “time out.”

Well the girl in the left panel comes from a home that is making five times what the girl in the right panel is making. But we have made sure that the funding received is doled out equally. I know the splinter is smaller, and her family can handle the cost, but it is fair to give each the same start. But there is more to it than that. The girl on the left also comes from a place where they get more in local taxes, so those services don’t even start to touch her insurance. Thanks to Obama the girl on the right IS covered, but it doesn’t cover all, and that is quite a big wound. The girl on the left is back with her friends and having fun, while the girl on the right is made to wait in an over used ER full of gun shot victims. Her family will bare the economic burden for years trying to pay off the remainder of that bill. This toon is beautiful, and unfortunately only scratches the surface of what is wrong today. sueamarlucanWe don’t even punish for rape if the rapist is a drunk frat boy, nor for murder if the killer has a badge to hide behind.
