Just a note btw: the “backlog” is the people still trying to get registered into the VA system, not those waiting for appointments for care. Back in 95, the standard wait to get through C & P, and get on board was FOUR YEARS! I had a Senator (Mark Hatfield) help me speed that up to 1 months for a PTSD recognition, but it still took another FOUR YEARS before they also added in 2 of my 5 “physical” disabilities, that yes, eventually caught up with me, which is now why I’m “permanent and total” on disability.
Another BTW, when my son got out of the Navy on a disabled retirement, under THIS administration, he was already signed up for VA when he left the service. It is the PENTAGON, who’s denying his injuries sustained in Iraq, like from IEDs, is NOT “combat related”, so that his VA compensation is deducted from his military retirement, making “defense” not liable for his situation, and pay the bills.
