That’s far older than Mark Twain … he grew in a culture that gave very good advice: “Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.” Book of Proverbs 17:28.

It takes being pretty old to get to that stage of wisdom. As years have gone by, I have learned when to keep my mouth shut.

The problem is to know when you’re about to say something stupid. In my case I assume that’s most of the time so I tend to keep my mouth shut!

To Chris and Gary: thank you for proving wrong those of us who thought that Jeff MacNelly’s ‘slantwise’ view of the world was irreproducible.

Thus the source of much of the “Wisdom of the Aged”, their experience teaches them when to keep their silence.

Haven’t seen Lew around for a while. SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED must have pulled the plug on his ‘puter! (Probably read some of his posts. Luckily, my better half doesn’t even know how to turn it on or operate a mouse! She can still turn me on, though!)

I’ ve got to learn that trick. I’ve been trying to for 4 decades.
