It’s a shame that any fandom today is now generalized to this due to a small loud part of the community, although I won’t deny it can be really bad when they get vocal about something.

Individual fans are, as a rule, absolutely awesome. In groups, they’re just another mob; the collective IQ is that of the lowest member, minus one for each additional member of the group.
