He is STILL not even close to my favorite politician, but I applauded his recent vote. He’s also smarter than Rogers depicts him: He had to know that he was the last true Republican standing. Twice: Not only have the Trumpist ones repeatedly shown their lack of spine, but I’m pretty well sure that there aren’t any true ones left at all.
Someone (DD Wiz perhaps) dubbed him “Mitt R-money” a few days ago, possibly in comments on a different cartoonist, and I love it. He surprised me by taking a principled stance when he knew it would hurt him politically in the short term. And he’s not stupid. He surely knew he stood alone. If he is being extremely cagey, he is betting that the Democrats will take control of the Senate in November and he wants to be seen as an honest broker.
The republicans are so much the “party of law and order” that the chairman of CPAC has UNinvited Romney because he “feared for Romney’s physical safety” if he came.
Utah (+ Idaho) is probably an island (metaphorically), but It is not surrounded by an ocean (real). Ol’ Mitt is probably about as real as a successful politician can get. The only way I can understand his speech is to accept it as real and heartfelt. Mitt is easily intelligent enough to understand what he was going to get.
Romney is a unicorn among the Republicon senators. He knew what he was in for. He has plenty of money and is well liked in Utah. He’ll will have to watch his back for quite a long time. A lot of MAGA nuts out there and you never know if Trump will put out a hit on him. It’s a high price to pay for anyone.
Didja ever notice on the old Westerns that the town bully or the ranch bully always has a bunch of guys behind him, and he keeps invoking them as he goes about his bully business: “Right? We’re gonna string ’im up, right, men?” “C’mon, men, let’s get ’im.” Not ONCE do you see a bully stand out there by himself to do his thing; that’s not what bullies do. They always move in packs. It’s only the good guy who stands by himself.
I think that there were more of the principled majority, but fear of (irrational) recrimination stayed their hands. It’s a legitimate choice, but I had hoped for better. . . . …..

Mitt’s party is no more. We need to dump the Trumpists occupying Repub seats and put Dems and Libertarians in their place.

He didn’t realize the GOP now buys their Hypocrisy by the Tanker Truck full and mixes it into the morning Coffee.
His fellow GOP Senators forgot: Mormons don’t drink Coffee.
