We’ll be paying on our children’s student loans for another 12 years. One owns his own business and the other is an executive. They are still paying the loans they took out. Our oldest put herself through college through the ROTC and is now a major. Many nations, recognizing the benefits an educated populace has for a nation, provide college at low or even no cost to the student. The college loan system has become a way of indenturing our neighbors into long term service to whatever job they can get just to pay off the loans. In many cases, these loans were made based on false expectations provided by the colleges themselves. False advertising used to be actionable. With the job creators unwilling to act, regardless of reason, college grads have degrees but few credible options. Jobs that once paid well must now compete with pay scales from overseas, and anything that cuts into share price and executive bonuses is unacceptable to the suits in their offices. If our legislators could work together in a civil and bipartisan manner, we could fix this, but they put power and greed above the needs of the American people and do not hear the cries for help until a few months before elections.Sadly, but Respectfully,C.

Of course college tuition is overpriced and inefficient, liberals run 90% of the universities.

I think you missed the part where I said they are paying for the loans THEY took out as well, DaShark. When your children are doing well, you’ve won.For my wife and me, it was an honor to help our children through college. They are using their degrees in their current careers, have their own homes and are happily married. If we, my wife and I, die today, we’ve won. We raised great kids who are contributing to society, our nation. You ask why should we pay for their education loans? I ask you, as parents, why would we not want to do so?Education is the most important weapon we have against disease, weather, enemies abroad, debt, and everything else. Education allows new minds to look at old problems through fresh lenses.I recognize the debt, and see many causes for it, but with education, civility, and compassion, nothing is beyond American skill and human tenacity.Respectfully,C.

Education is the basis of society. Culture, arts, and sciences flourish where there is detailed and varied knowledge. Lack of education helps to create the lord/serf culture so very popular in the properly-named Dark Ages. And many posters talk about “low-information voters”. Shouldn’t education promote more informed voters? Shouldn’t we be working out priorities?

Education may not be free, but ignorance is expensive. Although it is true that a degree in Byzantine Art History is not very marketable, all colleges provide educations in practical subjects, as well.

Colleges contribute to the problem by providing students with “conference rooms” with all the amenities of Fortune-500 Boardrooms. A local “University” here has created a year-round ski slope with plastic “snow”, and there is talk of a theme park being added. This is not part of a well-rounded education.

And learning a trade is also getting an education. If we really care about our future as a society, education should be priority one. It is true that government at all levels has run out of money. So, do you cut funds for education, or do you stop paying for contact lenses for Medicaid patients, for example? or for tanks even the Pentagon doesn’t want?

Government support of purchases always drives prices up. How can it be any surprise that when the government gets involved in paying student admissions the colleges start charging more?

Save to go to college? Save what? That’s hilarious. Indentured now; indentured later: take your pick. Or pick both.

    Get in touch dude.
