In some parts of the country ….the words that you use that are offencive or abusive are considered verbal assault and that’s illegal. So is flipping bird at someone you don’t like in traffic…. that’s considered assault and it’s illegal in some parts of the country. In some parts of the country the use of foul and abusive language in a public place or in a public venue or on public transportation is illegal. It has nothing and everything to do with your freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is a right and it also has responsibilities. It does have to do with assault upon another person’s consciousness of their moral values. Remember the part about freedom where you can swing your arm as long as you don’t connect with someone else’s nose. In some parts of the country they considered freedom of speech in the same manner. If you yell fire when there is no fire and someone is injured, you are liable for that injury. If you scream in someone’s ear, they can sue you for damages to their hearing. Freedom of speech has a lot of conditions and responsibilities that go with it.. And it always leaves you liable for any damages you do with your freedom of speech. There are also libel laws and slander laws that cover the damaging parts of any person’s freedom of speech. You cannot say just anything about someone or write just anything about someone if it’s not true and it causes damage to their reputation or their well being..then it’s illegal and you are liable for those damages. With all of the freedoms… each and every one of them….. on the Bill of Rights comes responsibilities and being responsible for your own actions in terms of how you conduct yourself within the freedoms encompassed by the Bill of Rights. Freedom is about responsibility to yourself and to others. Freedom is not about free-for-all wanton destruction of other people simply because it is your whim to be destructive.
