Yes and the pesticide they are spraying to kill the “Zika Mosquito” has the nasty side effect of halting brain growth in embryos..The greed by the rich has grown so much that Jonas Salk is deemed a fool by them. When he was more of a saint; he diid Not charge for his polio vaccine, it was for the good of mankind.
Clearly the pharmacy industry is out of control. We in the US pay at least thirty percent more that people outside the US. Recently it looks like they are tying to make it more like 500 percent because the can. I would like to see what the manufacturing cost is for the EpiPen. I would be it is less that fifty dollars.
I saw an idiot libertarian trying to make the case that Epipens are more expensive in the US than in Canada because we have too much regulation. Honestly? You think that the US has more regulations on pharmaceuticals than Canada? As with most libertarian arguments, of course, the opposite is true. In Canada there are regulations forbidding jacking up the price of life-saving medicines. That’s why all prescriptions are cheaper there.
Mosquitos,, ticks, bedbugs and leeches drink blood because they need to in order to survive. Big pharma sucks our blood to enrich stockholders and executives for greed. They have found that spending resources to purchase congressman and advertising is better for their profits than spending it on research. And they do not give a $hit about helping our common good.
Everyone calm down, the CEO got a huge raise, so it is just the free market. Free to pay or die. Much like DDT, it has never been about the lives of the little people.
The lack of regulation or restraint on medical corporations running hospitals, clinics, and ever smaller doctors’ offices for profit, not health, is right there with “big pharma” on ripping us off, and it’s a tad absurd that in Congress, the ones screwing us over go by “conservatives”.
The invasion of corporate greed merchants in medicine has been going on for some time. Costs in those “terrible” countries that have single payer, or other forms of profit controls (they don’t by any means eliminate profit) have provided much better care, and at lower cost, to far more people.
Even Britain, with real “socialized medicine” had a doctor with a new Million dollar plus apartment, and a brand new BMW, so physicians there don’t seem to be hurting too badly.
A more severe problem is the same VA faces, far more patients than they can handle with limited human resources to carry the load. It now takes 6 weeks or more to get an appointment with my actual Doctor, as the “new and improved” corporate structure in our town now brings in Nurse Practitioners or others, like PA’s to carry the load, and increase the profits for the corporation.
Stress, not low income, is what’s driving many away from the medical professions in this country.
Having medical decisions also determined by a nursing student on an insurance company phone bank on treatments authorized to maximimize profits and reduce costs, aren’t helping either.

Oh, and the cartoonist missed a chance for gender diversity. The big pharma CEO villain in this story is a woman.

The cartoonist forgot to mention politicians, bureaucrats and a few police officers.
