In California, folks keep rebuilding (with shake roofs again) i chaparral country where fire every couple years is normal. In “tornado alley” they keep rebuilding. When levees fail, or confining water flows as Corps of Engineers does, leads to increased damage in flood zones, where people keep building, why is “nature” responsible? When will hope give way to intelligence?
Shake roofs have been outlawed in the fire-prone areas of Colorado. You know, that “unfair government regulation” that conservatives go on about. It’s a shame that the FEMA grants for building safe rooms in communities in Oklahoma and Arkansas have fallen under the GOP sequester.

Underground homes would be a good idea. Thay can be quite nice.
