    Back in the early 70s, before someone decided that kids had to be installed backwards in the back seats of cars, there were child seats that hooked over the front seat backing. Early on, kids learned about driving from the driver, ie steering wheel control, turn signals, how to read signs and what green and red lights meant, when to give “one finger salutes” and how to spot a “smokie in a plain wrapper” etc. Some of these seats even had simulated steering wheels. They were later deemed unsafe – however – at that time there were very few incidents of kids being forgotten and left in cars, as the kid was right beside you!
