Ah ha, this is the way to do it! When something negative or critical is said about a subject that people hold dear (music, religion, politics, sports, or American Idol for example) it’s never a bad idea to put it on the lips of a baddy. If it turns into a big brouhaha in the comments section and you get accused of hatin’ on Simon, you have the out of saying “It was the villain who said that; I’d never say something like that!” In fact that’s why Segar created Poop Deck Pappy; they say it was to have a character to do and say the inappropriate things that he felt Popeye could no longer get away with.
