I haven’t owned a turntable in over 20 years. I love music and have a good ear, but I can’t afford a stereo where you might hear a difference between analog and digital…

When Trivial Pursuit first was marketed, a sample question in an ad was, “How many grooves on a standard 78 rpm record?” I saw a factory representative at a trade show and told him it was wrong. He claimed there was just one groove spiraling inward. I shook my head, crooked my index finger, and rotated my wrist, pointing down and up. He visibly paled. That question was never seen on their ad again. I said, “The last 78 to be recorded only on one side was a 1926 Brunswick shellac.”

I wonder if my old collection of Edison wax cylinders will ever come around again?

My wife and have hundreds of 12" LPs, and still collect them occasionally. Most of the CDs we have were purchased for use in our cars; however, that medium is going away also.

I am considering a new car, and asked the salesman why a CD player was optional or not even available on certain models.

He replied, “Because people these days prefer to use their phones to play music through a bluetooth connection in their cars, and no longer use CDs.”

I reached into my pocket, pulled out my cellphone, flipped it open, and said, “You mean from one of these?”

Next, she will bring out a rotary dial phone to show off.

HippogriffCorrection! The record in the ad was 45 rpm, quite popular at the time because of its light weight (including that of a 45 only record player), despite the fact it could only play 50% longer (in the ep format) than the 78 it replaced.
