Perfectly describes current political theater, where little governing is being done, and it is all posturing and popularity contests. Very little sensible rhetoric.
I’ve noticed a lot of cartoonists have been including current social commentary in their cartoons. It has always been a function of cartoonists with conscience to remind people of the realities in tough times. Kind of like poking you in the eye instead of the funny bone unfortunately. Kudos to them for caring, just the same1
Thankfully, this is just a cartoon, since that would essentially eviscerate poor John. The shell is a living part of the tortoise’s body. Fortunately, a cartoon can live forever!
I doubt there is any vindictive intention in this relationship at all. More like a chess game between old friends……well played Earl…..check and mate. But next move may well be Clyde’s!
I commend our current comics creators and writers who seem to have seized the opportunity to use the medium to make readers think a bit about the assault of modern behaviors upon our institutions. It seems there are no ‘sacred cows’ anymore, and the scourge that is modern society attacks indiscriminately and continually degrades our cultural experience and identity. We now live in an environment where the inmates are running the asylum. I feel more like E.T. than human, and I too want to go “Home”. God bless the cartoonists, the conscience of our culture.
Opal probably just substituted what she perceives as a healthier and easier to prepare sandwich. You either love bacon….or you are wrong! Meatloaf, bean sprouts and green pickle relish…..honest!
