    While that is true, the process takes thousands of years. First, a gene in a newborn animal has to mutate. And even then, usually the mutation doesn’t impact anything or it causes a negative change in the offspring. In the rare chance the mutation is helpful, it gives the offspring with the mutation a higher chance of survival, making it more likely to reproduce and pass down the mutated gene. If enough generations inherit the mutation, it will eventually won’t be a mutation anymore and will just be a part of the species. Big Nate kind of works like this with one comic being something different, and that difference eventually spreading to the whole strip. Thanks for listening to my TED talk.
