I learned to skydive on Oahu, at a field on the northwest part of the Island. My options were: to the north, the ocean. To the east: residential housing. To the south: pineapple fields. To the west wasn’t an option because the prevailing winds were roughly east to west.
This has been such a difficult arc to read. Ellie seems to me to be the dog chasing cars. She really has no idea what to do once she’s caught one. Hubbs at the same time is trapped in his own ideal – he loves the Ellie that first attracted him, but he did not appreciate what her values truly were.
This is a Shakesperean tragedy in the making. Hang on. Keep all limbs within the ride.
