Koko and Yum Yum are characters in The Mikado by Gilbert and Sullivan. Those names were traditional for Siamese cats when I was much younger (as in back in the 50s). Lillian Braun’s Siamese ave reinforced that tradition very nicely.
My grandparents had a house like that. The front door opened on the main floor but the back door thad a long flight of steps to get to the screen porch above the basement which opened in tun to the yard.
