I remember a card that compared the two holidays and which listed what they had in common: winter, lights, family, special foods, and then the 8 days of gifts versus 1 day of gifts. It ended, “Okay, you win!”
And that’s the problem with education when it takes a one-size-fits-all approach. When the bright students aren’t bored out of their minds, the dull ones are.
Fond memories here of my fifth and sixth grade teacher who not only noticed I was the first to finish the workbook exercises, but who let me fill in the time by reading a library book. God bless you Mrs. Murphy, wherever you are.
