   That’s for someone at GoComics to answer, but perhaps it’s to honor his legacy; the strip itself was of course created by the late George Gately Gallagher, though his nephew Peter now draws it.

   No, the strip where he says ‘should’ve’ is a syndicated ‘Garfield’ strip. Before syndication, the strip was called ‘Jon’ (and then ‘Garfield’) and ran in a small Indiana paper. Many of these pre-syndication strips, or the gags therein, were reused for the syndicated ‘Garfield.’ One such strip was the one where Garf says ‘So that’s why they call him Spot’; his name was at this point, in fact, Spot.

   Versus, say, Lio which has gone all in and rightfully caused some… emotions.

   Something about it felt off to me (aside from the fact that it just popped into the lexicon overnight and we all acted as though it was hammered into our brains since birth) and… I think that’s exactly it. Staying socially close right now through whatever physically distant means possible is… A Big Deal.

   I’m going to go with Mondrian and ‘something else’ for lack of conviction. I do think it’s fascinating to look at his work over time. You can see a real evolution from trees to complex linear, geometric structures that clearly mimic the branching of trees to the much more minimalist geometric work he’s commonly known for. I will abstain from saying genius, but I think it’s pretty clear he had a conceptual direction he developed over time, and didn’t simply get to ‘red square here, blue square there, done!’ by chance.

    Lot of good thoughts here. Gotta say this one didn’t hit me the same way Lio often does. And for some of the audience… it won’t. But for another portion of the audience, and quite possibly the author, this sort of thing is (as has been mentioned) an important coping mechanism. Hope everyone is dealing as best they can right now.
