For help on how to follow a comic title,
Those thinking Tiff will take Puddles to Gunther’s—have you forgotten their cat?!
I had to stop commenting here a few years ago due to joint pain. I can only open the top thread because it hurts to click open the others. I keep reading the top thread because I still enjoy discussions of the comic, and ‘hearing’ from the folks I used to be able to discuss the strip with.
These days, there is less and less discussion of the comic, and more and more boomer-nostalgia. Even though I am in the same cohort, this is not what I come here for, and many of the folks who used to post here appear to have been driven away. Maybe they post in other threads, but I cannot bear all the clicking.
I would be grateful if y’all would choose another chatsite to meet up in for non-Luann topics, and allow the Luann comments to return to being about the Luann comic strip.
Personally, I find the current situation depressing. This used to be where I went to recover after reading the news. Having the one thread I can endure to read filled with car talk, ancient tv show references, and occasional misogyny (of which the posters are blissfully unaware), from a smaller group of posters than I used to see, is discouraging.
Please, pick another, more general chatsite and meet up there to discuss non-Luann related topics.
The best parental response to “I’m bored” is, “Then I have some work for you to do.” Suddenly the formerly bored person can think of many interesting things to do—and if not, at least you get some chores done. (Credit to my mother.)
I agree that Bets’ body language is important, but to me it shows that she is feeling defensive—hence the protective, crossed arms. She’s hiding her vulnerability behind those crossed arms, and hiding behind her anger.
If she were truly done with Gunther, she’d have left as soon as he showed up. If some part of her didn’t also want to repair her relationship with Tiff, she wouldn’t have come over under the pretext of getting a refund and an apology—she would’ve demanded the refund be mailed to her. Heck, she could’ve taken Tiff to the small claims court. She didn’t do any of that. Despite her protestations, which are there to mask her real feelings, she wants to fix both these relationships, but doesn’t know how to do that while protecting herself from being hurt.
Because of course, intimacy means vulnerability; she can’t have the first without the second.
If you’re interested, I can recommend this series of books by Patrick O’Brian (though it’s not about pirates): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aubrey%E2%80%93Maturin_series
One can also watch the movie based on the first book, Master & Commander.
Sailors on sailing ships had to sew in order to repair their sails! Captains who came up through the ranks would know how, even if they wouldn’t be doing the repair themselves as long as they weren’t short-handed.
How horrible for everyone!
@ILK @bytebot-gocomics Hey. @beb01 had some typographical errors in his post—I get the same kind of errors when I edit a post but can’t see that I inadvertently left out a word or deleted too many words—and then, since there’s no edit function (at least not for non-premium members), he posted a later edit. ETA in this case meant Edited To Add.
The pandemic sure is taking a toll on the commentary on this site. I assume that’s why almost everyone’s become much more argumentative than we were, say, 2 years ago? (Self included.) Hang in there, folks!
Back to the strip—I too hope Tara’s okay. I’m pretty sure she will be, but who knows? :)
Look at the back wheel. There’s a white line denoting direction of travel; to my eye, the wheel is moving counter-clockwise, suggesting the wheel & car are going backwards. The driver is reversing so she’ll have room to get some speed before she hits Tara. Add to this what another poster said above: had she driven forward, there would have been a ‘crunch’ sound instead of the ‘skeee’ of the back wheels.
Sure, Greg & Karen are trying to fool us, and it could be the other way ‘round, but my guess is that the car’s backing up atm.
