   Upon further research, it appears that no court was allowed to find a judgement against Iran and the Congress had to provide compensation to the Iranian hostages. Sorry about that. I was just remembering the attempts of getting justice for the hostages from the courts.

   You said that it is their money. Correct. There were judgements made against Iran for the hostage taking and holding. Isn’t it usual to put a lean against assets to pay off the debt. It doesn’t really matter where the assets came from, at least, in judgements in the US.

   Not all of it. See, there had been court judgements against Iran for their behavior during the hostage situation many years ago. Logically, those judgements should have come out of the money Obama gave to Iran.
