Valid… at the time I was reading the strip because people were calling it the spiritual successor to C&H. At the time, I was reading it under that context.
He was intending to get sent home as a legend, get in trouble with mom, wash it off and be done – the fame was worth the punishment. But when he found out that it was permanent, he realized his mom would punish him worse, making the crime not worth the time. He’s trying to avoid being sent home at this point. Hilarity will ensue, I’m sure.
At max zoom on Google Maps where “United States” is still displayed, they’re near Belleville, Ks. The more you scroll in, the further west they live… though Calvin’s childhood was happily prior to Google.
