One last thought. Bernice is only being nice to Bernice. If she did her job, and turned Tiff in, it would open an entirely new conversation about how she knew Piro and how long she knew he was there and why she didn’t report the scarf. Bernice’s roommate knows that Piro has stayed in their room. Others know as well. It wouldn’t be long until the news got out. Bernice wants access to Piro. If he gets booted, she has no access to him.
Bernice is taking this very personal. She is only upset the Tiff seems to have the upper hand in the Piro game. It isn’t about being nice. Bernice has already broken the rules, the same as as Tiff, for the same guy.
I work in the same building as a 55 year old Bernice. I dread any interaction with her. I have never seen her happy and she seems to think she is in charge of something/everything.
For what it’s worth: I knew a guy that spent a semester homeless and a college student. He was a commuter and his family lost their home. He basically spent the semester in the library and various day rooms.
