There must be an awful lot of Ru$$ian trolls on the payroll to have one posting here about the “death tax.” Or maybe somewhere out there Sarah Palin is having a slow day.
“four girlfriends trapped in the past with a sucky boyfriend.” I’m afraid I have a few such girlfriends trapped in their pasts with the sucky boyfriend that was myself. Makes me sad.
The China CP has let this go as far as it has because they fear, probably correctly, that an excess of force will cause a lot of Hong Kong international business to relocate elsewhere. Which will, among other things, make it harder for the CP elite to smuggle dollars out of the country. If you have international mobility you don’t typically choose to live in a police state. That’s the conundrum. The Khashoggi assassination in Saudi Arabia poses a similar issue. Khashoggie was the newphew of the incredibly wealthy Adnan Khashoggi a big time arms dealer in the Middle East for decades. If a member of a powerful clan like that can be casually offed no one is safe. A definite kink in the plans to sell Aramco shares. But we’ll see how it unfurls.
I once caclulated Bill Gates’ wealth against my combination of assets and income. That was back when he was worth $50b. I determined that he could afford to buy a new Lamborghini every three months, throw out the old one, and the impact on his total position would be LESS than the impact on me of paying for an oil change.

Actually I agree with TaximanSteve. I’m a Democrat by the way. But no one ever was disappointed much by betting on the ability of the Democrats to lose. Look at how Hillary pulled defeat from the jaws of victory.
Zactly so. They need to take the senate. It has happened before. The problem is that “Democrats” today are basically anyone who is sane. The political spectrum of the Democratic party looks like the entire political spectrum between Dems and Repubs back in the 1960s. Now the crazy Goldwater and John Birch types (that no one paid much attention to 50 years ago) control the entire Republican party, and things are getting cramped in the Democratic party. Bloomberg has to run as a Dem because he is sane; in another time, he would have had plenty of Republicans in the Repub party to keep him company. What I’m getting at is that even if the Dems manage to retake the Senate we don’t know if they’ll be solid enough to take on something like enlarging the supreme court—or impeaching one or two sitting justices.

The New Yorker parodies are spot on. Perhaps Mr. Bolling is a little jealous that the New Yorker doesn’t carry him. (I wish it did)
Actually a fair number of justices have heard cases about presidents that nominated them and they have a fair record in not voting with. But those were better times.
