  1. about 5 years ago on Calvin and Hobbes

I don’t know if the long term members who regularly visit C&H remember me because I only commented once in probably 3 years. But I want to take the opportunity to thank C&H for this one strip which according to me is probably the 2nd best strip ever produced. I mean I know it’s wrong to rank these legendary strips like this but this one is leagues ahead.

I used to fear the dark because of not only the dread I feared of death but also the loneliness feeling it gave. I didn’t have best friends to accompany me through that time but had only these strips of joy and they probably provided incentive to move ahead of those fears. Sure, people helped every now and then but I have to give credit to these pieces of art. There’s no throwaway gag in the beginning like there usually is. There’s just a truth given by Calvin. And his truth would have overtaken him had it not been for his friend. I mean, Hobbes is not real anywhere but in Calvin’s mind (and the minds of C&H fans!) so in a way Calvin is doing this all on his own but he does manage to distract himself and after that there is no more worry on Calvin’s face, there’s only happiness and sleepiness and a legendary quote. “THINGS ARE NEVER QUITE ASSCARY WHEN YOUVE GOT A BEST FRIEND”This is by far one of the most true things I’ve come across in life. Yes, Calvin, things are never quite ever the same when you’ve a best friend. For those wondering these are my all time favorites. 1. Calvin: DAD, HOW DO SOLDIERS KILLING EACH OTHER SOLVE THE WORLDS PROBLEMS? Calvin: I THINK GROWN-UPS JUST ACT LIKE THEY KNOW WHAT THEY’RE DOING. this strip taught me so much I can only state it and reserve it seriously for another day.
