   Actually it’s Pennys’ if you’re talking about both of them and Penny’s if you’re only talking about one of them.

   I love ‘The Dinette Set’. A few of you are regular followers of it and make snide comments about the Penny’s everyday and today was no exception. I agree with you to some extent but today’s comic made me think of my own mother and her cooking, because we often had the same things over and over too – meatloaf, stew (made with a soup bone), homemade chicken noodle soup made with the chicken’s wings or backs (they were the cheapest parts back then), spaghetti – and yeah even with 4 kids there were often leftovers. My dad worked in the steel mills and there were 2 strikes, 1 in 1956 and the horrendous one in 1959. The 1959 strike lasted nearly 4 months. Money was scarce and we were lucky to have food on the table at all. No one worried about nutrition.

   I still remember my mom making me sit at the dinner table – well past dinner time – until I ate my peas. I hate them to this day.

    I find there is a little bit of the Pennys in everyone and just like the Pennys, they fail to see it.
