We weren’t allowed shorts, even under required dresses. When my mom heard about the stuff we were doing on the monkey bars she made us bloomers, a throwback from the Victorian era. My sister refused to wear them and remained ‘cool’ while I did and was more or less permanently labeled a dork.
Females joined the workforce in the forties out of necessity because so many men were off fighting WW2 [and many joined the fight]. When the men returned they were fired en masse. You can’t blame this for creating the necessity of two income families.
I’ve noticed many husbands with Calvin’s attitude but very rarely is that an option for wives.
