   As an English teacher, this is what I tell my students. "It doesn’t bother me how you speak to your friends, associates, and so forth. I was raised in the South. I spoke “redneck” before I spoke English. I would prefer you speak properly in my class, but if you don’t it is not going to affect your grade. My goal is that you can speak and write properly when the occasion calls for it (formal interview, public speaking, etc.) so that you make the best impression possible. How you speak outside of that is entirely up to you."
