   “The butterfly flaps her wings and all changes.” Which would be why it’s better to post this stuff now rather than to try to build a time machine to come back to eradicate Hitler or Stalin or Mao or Trump or any other garden variety insert.pariah.here.Some of the changes you detail were good and some were not. If the ones that were bad could have been stopped it’s a shame that they weren’t. America has been more resilient than I think you’re giving it credit for. Protecting it from folly is in everyone’s interest. And to rephrase my assessment from yesterday, if Trump’s campaign isn’t a train wreck of folly I don’t know what is.

Noun – a political leader who seeks support by appealing to popular desires and prejudices rather than by using rational argument. You can sway a thousand men by appealing to their prejudices before you can sway one by appealing to reason. “Blind enfranchisement”? Would you have an IQ test and the weight of one’s vote be proportional to one’s score? That would be difficult to administer even in a perfect world.Yes it’s a dangerous world. It’s up to men of wisdom and reason to make it less so, certainly not narcissists, paranoids and xenophobes.

   Bang on. Extreme partisanship applies to both sides of the political coin and there’s not just a single cause. But let’s discuss fixing the problem rather than fixing blame. If both sides don’t work together on a solution the great republic we call America is headed for the dumpster. I give it a hundred years tops until the day when Mandarin is the language of business and Chinese communism is the way of the world unless the train is set properly on the tracks. And in those days discussions like we’re having here will no doubt be answered by jackboots knocking on the door. I’m sure there are truckloads of Trump supporters who would like to jackboot our doors down even today because of what we have to say here. They’ll be able to get their wish when those days come but the world sure won’t look like what they’re expecting. I wish good luck and the wisdom of the founding fathers to all of us. We’re going to need it. Cheers.

   So you’re going to go with extreme partisanship rather than racism. You’ve got Hanlon’s razor “never assume malice when stupidity will suffice” on the side of that argument. Again though, nothing Obama ever asks for seems to get approved by Congress. The idea of the “stimulus” may or may not be a good one but we can let history and those with more economic acumen judge that. In the beginning Obama did make attempts at bipartisanship, only to get shot down repeatedly. One can’t even give a moniker of Machiavellian to the actions of the Republicans. The only things that ever seem to get done are by way of executive order, and even then the opposing politocos will claim abuse and appeal to the portion of the electorate that Trumpster loves so much, conveniently ignoring the historical record of many presidents who have acted in a similar fashion.As for the other link I posted from the Financial Times, http://on.ft.com/24zsLF4 – “Donald Trump embodies how great republics meet their end.” The author may have been making use of hyperbole in the intro in order to grab the reader’s attention but just because you are arguably able to debunk some of the statements in the intro doesn’t mean the rest of it is incorrect.I’ll cede you some ground in the racism debate, noting your well-said comment, “There is racism. Only a fool might think otherwise. (And even few fools are THAT foolish.)” However I stand by my assessment that Trump and his proponents are a train wreck of stupid rolling at us. Mutual Assured Destruction btw assures destruction. Even your argument regarding partisanship shows the reek of how broken the American system is. It may take the wisdom of the founding fathers to fix it but please forgive me for being unable to fathom how Trump’s brand of narcissism, paranoia and xenophobia is going to be a good thing for anybody, let alone the good people of America themselves.

   As much as I hate liberals and would have preferred to see John McCain as prez in 2008 (his idiot assassination-deterrent running mate notwithstanding), Obama was actually one of the most intelligent people ever to run for that office. If not for the cabal of Republicans (links available on request) that vowed to oppose anything and everything he wanted even if it was good for America, he’d have been able to accomplish a great deal. Now factoring out hatred for Democrats and self-serving politicking, what else could that have been motivated by but racism?
