Excellent drawing of Monstro! Love that movie and so do my grandkids!
I had a totally different take on this. Arlo never held onto or made his dreams work out. Gene, on the other hand, is working hard with his family to make a life for themselves and live the dream of a rural, environmental friendly career. Gene seems to know what he’s doing, and things are going along as expected. Having several income streams is a good way to hedge your bets. I think Arlo is realizing that Gene has this handled.
Anecdotal information is not a compelling argument. There are always exceptions. I am not and have never been a member of LaLeche. I just read a lot and raised four kids of my own. No guilt trip intended, but if someone had tried to feed my kids a bottle when I was trying to breast feed, I would have had an issue with that. There is no doubt that some women have problems with breast feeding and when help is required that is fine. However, breast feeding is still the most natural option for a healthy mother and infant, extenuating circumstances notwithstanding. Obviously if a child isn’t getting proper nourishment, formula is better than nothing. However the whole “formula is better than mother’s milk” propaganda that went around for a very long while, is hogwash.
Babies being fed formula rather than breast milk is a major culprit for our children’s compromised immune systems and the rise of many illnesses formerly unheard of in the very young. Check out the information (available in recent scientific journals) on the bacteria that are supposed to form in a baby’s gut to give them healthy immune systems. This bacteria does not form in bottle fed babies, but only in breastfed babies. Bottle feeding a baby that is being nursed is a very bad idea as it will interfere with the mother’s ability to produce enough milk for her baby. Breast milk is supply and demand. Once the baby is being “conveniently” fed with a bottle, the demand will drop and the supply will dry up. It’s the death knell to breastfeeding.
I find it sad that even cartoon characters need to go on diets. All people are not the same size, and Roy looks positively emaciated. I liked it when he and his wife were “pleasingly plump.” :-)
Do NOT like the new Nancy!
Is it just me, or are the readers of this strip really, REALLY judgmental?
What a great idea for this story line. Will flesh out the lives of Arlo and Janis and make things more interesting.
“You’re” NOT “your.”
Love the idea of Arlo and Janis moving to new digs and being closer to the kids. The extended family creates a richness to their lives and much more opportunity for new humorous adventures…AND Arlo can use his boat!
