I had a co-worker (a year older than I) that was afraid to retire because he didn’t know what he’d do all day long. He had savings but didn’t want to sit in a chair all day long (his words). However, he got fed up with work for the same reasons I did and retired at 68. Now he’s building custom humidors for his cigar-smoking friends and for sale, working in the garden, playing vinyl records, relaxing, doing house improvements, and having a good time.
What I forgot to mention, however, is that some folks can’t retire because they have no nest egg saved away. You still need income when doing nothing.
Agreed. I bailed out at 65 in 2020. Just couldn’t stand my project management team. Adios, suckers. Now, it’s books, hobbies, guitar, golf, and doing nothing. Awesome.
