I don’t know, but it’s not unrealistic. I live in AZ and there’s several sidings like this at odd places along the RR tracks with nothing around them

the freckles and the nose tell you who’s who. The only thing that’s changed between the two kids is hairstyle and hair color.

he was older than that. Early strips established Andy as a WW2 vet who saw service in the African campaign (40-43). So in 57 he’d be in his early 30s at least.

Gunther is one of those people who needs to fix other people’s problems. Bets is not like that. I have to side with Bets here. Gunther needs to learn that when you’re with someone (I mean as in literally with , as in physically co-located) you’re dating then that someone is your priority. You don’t go haring off to “fix” other people’s problems. This was a Luanne / Tiff / Bernice situation and Gunther had no business getting involved in it.

On another note. I very much dislike how Evans introduced and played up Bets as a possible match for Gunther and now lately has seemingly gone out of his way to make her as unlikable as possible.

I have to agree. We can’t “win” the fight, the best we can hope for is to acceptably “manage” it. Whatever president bites the bullet and finally pulls the troops out is going to be blamed for “loosing Afghanistan”. Andylit is right in that it is impossible to remove our troops and expect anything other than a Taliban resurgence. That’s probably why each president hasn’t pulled the troops out. They’ve kept the lid on as best they could then tossed that live grenade to the next guy with a sigh of relief The best way to go about it , IMO, would be a president near the end of his second term applying the rip-the-bandaid-off approach. That way the repercussions don’t effect his other policies so much and his successor doesn’t have it hanging over his head either.
