Dad was strafing a rail yard in Germany in his P-51 when he felt two big impacts in his rudder pedals. He was momentarily afraid he’d been hit in the belly of the plane, which is where the coolant lines ran, which would have resulted in a seized engine in short order. He firewalled it on out of there, looked back, and saw two big holes in the rudder which wouldn’t bring him down, so relaxed somewhat.Cruised on back to Duxford, landed, taxied to his hard stand, and cut the engine. When the last blade of the big 4 blade prop stopped straight up, he was looking at a big hole in the blade with about 2" of metal either side of the hole. He said he was too weak kneed to climb out for a while.

I can’t get incandescents here. Luckily, I’ve got a few precious ones squirreled away. They’re reserved for our rare freezing weather, where in a drop light, they can provide enough heat to save a tarped citrus tree or plumbing connection.

Pet hair, it’s not just a condiment, it’s a fashion statement!

Prof was wrong anyway. The boat floats at the point the forces are equal, be it gravy, tea, or any othe liquid.

My wife and I tossed the last feral hog I shot in the back of my Armada. I field dressed it first to get the weight down, Weathertech is good for more than mud. It hauls most of what I need, and the seats stay down 95% of the time. A trailer hauls the larger stuff. Never been able to talk myself into a pickup.

Reminds me of Grandma Cat, a farm cat in my youth. My grandmother called Mom and said she’d found a cat for us. Grandma said she saw the cat surrounded by the hound dogs whose major sport was killing cats. The next thing she saw was the cat spin in a circle, then all the dogs run away flinging blood from their slashed noses. We got the cat, and she had a long and productive life. We had cats all over the place while she lasted. She was fat and slow, but a mighty hunter, even brought home a jackrabbit once.

Mom and Dad did once, Texas to Kansas to California, and back in a Super Cub. It took a while, and was a little scary at least once crossing a mountain range in the southwest. The updrafts and downdrafts were fierce.

My aunt in Mississippi had a miniature poodle named FiFi who was in heat. Aunt Rose had been religiously keeping FiFi in all week, then she got out and matched up with the neighbor’s English bulldog named Beauregard. Aunt said she hollered out the door “Oh Fifi, not Beauregard!!”

I did that with a Keurig, which if anything is even worse. Now I routinely stick my finger in the empty cup to check. If it won’t go, I turn the cup over.
