Solitha, Come now, everyone lives by faith. What matters is what you have faith in.

Croc Holliday, I agree wholeheartedly……BUT…(you knew this was coming)…you can be hostile to the One true God that has revealed Himself to us through Jesus Christ. If you aren’t hostile, then may I suggest reading the book of John in the New Testament?

Solitha, Don’t you see that you are doing exactly what Adam did? He chose to try to be wiser, smarter, etc. than God, the One that created him. But we all are in that category. John 3 says we all are spiritually dead by our disobedience to God. So we naturally are hostile to God. We therefore bad mouth God, accuse Him of sin, etc. That’s why we need to be born again, as Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3. By the way, spiritually speaking, there is no best of the best. We are all sinners. We all need to be saved from ourselves.

I was intrigued by your comment as a believer in the need to be born again as Jesus said because the older I get the more I look back at my life and see even what I thought was so good of me was still done selfishly with me partly in mind. Now my motivation is to please God instead of myself. It frees me to do good and help others even when I don’t “feel” like it.

Very insightful. What does one do with that realization?

That’s funny! Seriously though, God lives in eternity, not time and space. When it is the right time, He will return. Just please be ready.

Jesus condemned the super religious people of His day, the Pharisees, and declared them to be hypocrites. He saves people that know they are sinners and need a Savior. Read the Bible and don’t let religious people that you don’t care for since they seem to be false, stand in the way of knowing the truth. Try the book of John first.

Okay, another thought, getting to heaven isn’t about behavior, good or bad. Mankind’s nature is to oppose God’s rule and do as we please. After John 3:16, we read that mankind is condemned already. That’s our problem, and that is why we are told we need to be born again. It is our nature that needs changing. If we repent (turn away from) of self-rule and submit to the rule of Christ, and acknowledge that He took the punishment we deserve, He will give us a new nature that wants to obey the laws of His kingdom.
