It seems like almost all comics today were encouraging people to vote. I half expected to get to Rall only to find him encouraging people NOT to vote.
Ted Rall… master of the false equivalency
I can’t call McConnell a hypocrite. He’s not. He’s duplicitous. He lied about his reasons for denying a hearing to Garland and refusing to confirm over 100 judges while Obama was in office. His core motivation has always been to stack the courts and he hasn’t wavered one inch from that conviction. That’s why with the American people and small businesses suffering from the pandemic, he hasn’t done anything to work on a stimulus bill, but instead was busy confirming more judges. Jumping at the chance to fill RBG’s seat is his wet dream. He’ll spin and prevaricate and lie some more to justify his actions, but he’s been 100% true to his intentions all along.
Trump’s actions were more akin to a plane heading towards severe turbulence and telling the passengers to unbuckle their seatbelts. The turbulence is a hoax! It’ll disappear like magic! There’s a huge area between causing a panic and lying to hide the truth. You know, like the captain tells everyone that there’s turbulence ahead, to remain seated with their seatbelts buckled, and that the flight attendants will stop beverage service until the air is smooth again. THAT’S what a real leader does.
Did he do that?
Rall is as much of an authoritarian as Trump. He wants his ideas to be a grand edict imposed on all citizens of this nation. What he fails to acknowledge is that we are a democratic republic, with people and representatives who have beliefs that differ from his. He also fails to acknowledge that any legislation needs to be a negotiation and compromise between these differing ideologies. Anyone who thinks that electing Bernie Sanders as President will suddenly mean that Medicare for All becomes a reality is fooling themselves. The majority of the country (and an even bigger majority of Congress) isn’t ready for that and the proposal will die in Congress. Sometimes you have to accept the incremental steps towards the desired goal, even if it doesn’t meet Rall’s stringent demands for his ideological purity.
At their convention, the DNC released a 91-page party platform laying out their policies and agenda. At the RNC convention, the GOP released a one-page statement saying that they support whatever the President wants. Somehow, partisan hacks like Stantis claim that the DNC has no policies. The gaslighting is strong with this one.
What happens to a liar when he dies?He lies still.
That’s a lot more support from women than the actual GOP is getting this year.
Speaking of ratings in the tank, the RNC drew 3 million fewer people than the DNC for day one of the convention. Guess half the party was out brandishing guns at people peacefully walking past their property.
