   A few updates:

   And I’d add:

   Healthcare is a universal need, it needs to be universally provided.

   Yes, I do live in Canada. I have dual citizenship. But I’d never want to live down South permanently, your privatised profit driven health insurance is scary.

   Israeli apologists rightly condemn terrorism. However, the Israeli military legitimizes terrorism by negotiating (through warfare). Terrorism becomes two way and normal. Thus Israel props up their violent opponents and the violent opponents prop up the Israeli military.

   In each conflict there is usually 3 sides. Two loud sides with weapons and one silent majority who bears the brunt of the use of those weapons. The majority is neither Israeli nor Palestinian, just human beings.

   The loud sides with weapons eventually lose, for the majority is nothing if not patient. I do with the majority were a little more self-conscious and willing to cast off their parasitic war-mongering troublemakers.

   I gave money for potato salad before I read this. Back then it was about $3000

   There is something about the humility in the humour and the modest goal. It would have been a smashing success if it had raised $11. To make food. To share. That’s pretty different than $40,000 grand to make a collection of my own doodles and ramblings that I then want people to buy after I have been already paid to make it. And I can donate $3 to the salad and be a big spender (and get a “bite” sent to me in the mail!?!?!) vs I need to spend $50 to get a comic book that I can buy on the used market in a year for $7. It’s like the success of Apple with their Apps for .99 vs Buying Microsoft OS for $100. Low barrier to entry.

   I’m a longtime loyal Ted Rall fan. And I hate Wal-Mart and all that trend towards the cheapening of what is truly valuable. But not all of the trend of Fast Cheap and Out of Control is hard to understand. People need cheap and easy. Or they want it anyway.

   Ted doesn’t even moralise and blame people in this comic (Well, not so much as point out that Sudan exists and things more valuable than salad). He just points out the situation and that “we are doomed” if this is how our culture decides to collectively value things. Which is also quite true.

   Thanks for this awesome one Ted. I especially like the last panel about Economics. I’ve wanted to have a T-shirt that says “I don’t believe in The Economy” or maybe something more obviously parallel to an atheism argument. You line about Metaphysical Religion is better.

   Ever since James Carville this bizarre notion that economic thought is a liberal or leftist cause has prevailed. There was an organised radical objection to that in the Anti-Free Trade movements of the late 90s. But then 9/11 and patriotic stifling of dissent narrowed the parameters of the political discussion.

   Occupy was a flash in the pan. One reason it may have failed, among others, was the theoretical incoherence of so many claiming to represent it… some in favour and some against our ideology of the economy.

   Yep. This is my main criticism of the daily show/colbert. Sure it is funny to lampoon the right wing insanity but it’s pretty rare that they actually acknowledge the existence of any viable alternative to the right wing circus. I’m all for comedy and critique but if the Left is going to advance we need to pay attention more to what we are going to do than just what stupid things our opponents are doing. This isn’t exactly a new situation…

   Good for you Ted this work of showing the perspective of your enemy is honourable work but the majority will be scornful and derisive. I don’t know why it doesn’t rationally occur to them that this is something one is obligated to consider if one is to fight a war.

   In 2001 I made an art print for a school project of my face transposed with Osama Bin Laden called “Our enemies, Ourselves.” I was amazed how few people “got it.” I would get feedback like: “Do you want people to beat you up?” I still get stupid feedback, to this day, on that self-portrait.

   Keep up the good work.

    Teddy is irrational. 9/11! Irony? Gut off the heads of people in the neighbourhood! That is the way to end all terror and evil forever! Hooray, no more evil!
